Riding in Strong Winds

So it’s a Sunday and storm Freya has it’s grip on the country with some strong winds. So just a couple of tips from us at The Velo Doctor if you are thinking of taking to the roads today.

If you have deep section rims then change your wheels for the ride. If you are not experienced riding in strong winds the 50mm should be your absolute maximum.

Start your ride if possible by riding into the wind. The return journey will be much easier. The other way around and you feel like Superman and could go for miles but the return journey may see you riding home in the dark!

If riding with others then ride single file and take less time at the front than normal.

If riding in a cross wind then form a small echelon. Basically riding behind and to the side of the rider in front.
